Errors when saving or publishing a listing to Etsy

Last updated on

When you click Save changes or Publish, Listadum sends your edits to Etsy through Etsy's official API. If Etsy says no, Listadum shows you Etsy's message, word for word. Those messages are written for developers, so they can be hard to read.

This page translates the most common ones. Find your error below, then follow the steps.

Quick tip: if a section has a problem, Listadum shows "Some sections have errors:" at the bottom of the editor, followed by the section names. Click a section name to jump straight to it.

Something is missing from the listing

"taxonomyId must not be less than 1, taxonomyId must be an integer number"

What it means: the listing has no category, and Etsy requires one.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Variations section.

  3. Under Category, click Select a category and pick the one that fits your item. Go as deep as you can. If Listadum says "The selected category needs further refinement," pick a more specific one.

  4. Click Save changes (or Publish).

If you saw this in Bulk Create, set a category on every listing in the batch before you publish.

"The listing has no associated processing profiles. It can not be activated without a processing profile."

You may also see "Some sections have errors: Shipping" at the bottom of the editor.

What it means: Etsy needs a processing profile (how long it takes you to get an order ready) before a physical listing can go live.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Shipping section.

  3. Under Processing profile, click Select a processing profile and choose one.

  4. Don't see any options? Create a processing profile in Etsy Shop Manager first. Then come back and click the small refresh icon next to Processing profile to load it.

  5. Click Save changes (or Publish).

If the field says "Processing profile set at the variation level," your processing time changes per variation. In that case, go to the Variations section, open the Processing profile tab, and pick a profile for every variation.

Shipping shows "Required" under other fields

Physical listings also need a Shipping profile and a Return policy. If you use calculated shipping, Weight and all three Dimensions are required too. Fill in every field marked "Required," then save again.

Something in the listing isn't allowed

"payload.title must match /^[\p{L}\p{Nd}\p{P}\p{Sm}\p{Zs}™©®]+$/u regular expression"

What it means: your title contains a character Etsy doesn't accept. Often it's invisible, like a zero-width character that came along when you pasted text from another app or an AI tool.

Etsy allows letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, math symbols, and ™ © ®. Emoji and most other symbols are not allowed.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Title section.

  3. Delete the whole title.

  4. Type it again by hand. Don't paste it back in, since that brings the hidden character back.

  5. Click Save changes.

"Images must contain no more than 20 elements"

What it means: Etsy allows up to 20 photos per listing, and this one has more.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Photos section. You'll see "Etsy allows up to 20 photos. Remove [number] to continue."

  3. Delete photos until you have 20 or fewer.

  4. Click Save changes.

This used to happen when a template added photos on top of the ones a listing already had. We fixed that, and Listadum now stops you before you go over the limit.

"Oh dear, you cannot sell this item on Etsy"

This one has its own guide: Oh dear, you cannot sell this item on Etsy. Short version: check Who made it, What is it, and When was it made, and add a production partner if someone else makes the item.

Wait, then try again

"Another changeset is currently being applied to this listing."

What it means: another save is already being sent to Etsy for this same listing, and Listadum won't run two at once.

That other save might come from a second browser tab, a teammate, a bulk action, a scheduled publish, or an AI assistant connected to your shop.

How to fix it:

  1. Wait a minute or two so the other save can finish.

  2. Click Save changes again.

If you still see this message after 15 minutes, contact support (see below).

"Import failed" with "HTTP 500: Internal Server Error (GET https://openapi.etsy.com/...)"

What it means: Etsy's servers had a problem while Listadum was importing your shop for the first time. A 500 error comes from Etsy's side, not from your shop or your settings.

How to fix it: You don't need to do anything right away: Listadum retries the import automatically. These Etsy errors are usually temporary.

If it keeps failing, click Contact Support on the "Import failed" screen and tell us the name of your shop.

Your shop's connection to Etsy

"Could not find Etsy credentials for this store"

What it means: Listadum lost its permission to access your Etsy shop. This usually happens when Etsy ends the connection, for example after a password or security change on your Etsy account.

You might also see a red "Disconnected" label next to your shop in the shop selector.

How to fix it:

  1. On etsy.com, make sure you're signed in to the right shop (or sign out of Etsy completely).

  2. In Listadum, open Settings, then select Integrations.

  3. In the Etsy integration card, click Configure integration.

  4. Follow Etsy's steps to give Listadum access again.

  5. Once the card shows Connected, go back to your listing and save again.

Only shop owners and admins can do this. If you're a team member, ask an admin to reconnect the shop.

"Your Etsy account is temporarily disabled" or "unusual activity"

What it means: this message comes from Etsy, not from Listadum. Etsy has paused your account, often for a security or verification check.

How to fix it:

  1. Check your email for a message from Etsy.

  2. Follow Etsy's instructions, or contact Etsy Support.

Listadum can't see why Etsy paused your account and can't lift the pause.

The save didn't go through, or you can't save at all

"Failed to apply changeset" (with no other details)

What it means: something went wrong while sending your changes to Etsy, and we didn't get a clear reason back.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Actions section and click Synchronize. This loads the latest version of the listing from Etsy, so you can see what actually saved. It also discards any unsaved changes on the page, so copy anything you want to keep first.

  3. Make your changes again and click Save changes.

  4. Still failing? Click Report this issue in the error message to tell us.

The "Save changes" button is greyed out

The button turns off for one of these reasons:

  • A section has an error. Look at the bottom of the editor for "Some sections have errors:" and click the section name to fix it.

  • Nothing has changed. Listadum only saves when you've edited something.

  • Etsy removed the listing. You'll see "Etsy removed this listing." Only Etsy can bring it back, so check your Etsy email and contact Etsy Support.

  • Recording mode is on. You'll see "Saving paused." Turn off recording mode to save.

You saved, but the change doesn't show up on Etsy

How to check:

  1. Open the listing in the editor.

  2. Go to the Actions section and click Edit in Etsy to see the listing in Etsy Shop Manager.

  3. If the change isn't there, click Synchronize in the same section to load the latest version from Etsy, then make the change again and save.
