PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: May 14, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how [Your Shop Name] ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you purchase from our Etsy shop, contact us, or otherwise interact with us.
1. Information We Collect

To fulfill your order and run our shop, we collect personal information you provide directly to us or through Etsy, including:

- Your name, billing address, shipping address, and email address
- Payment information (processed by Etsy, never stored by us)
- Order details and order history

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information described above for the following purposes:

- To fulfill and ship your order
- To communicate with you about your order, including shipping updates and any issues
- To handle returns, exchanges, or refunds
- To comply with our legal obligations, including tax reporting and recordkeeping

3. How We Share Your Information

We share your personal information only with the third parties needed to fulfill your order and run our shop:

- Etsy, which hosts our shop and processes orders and payments on our behalf
- Payment processors used by Etsy, including Etsy Payments and, where offered, PayPal
- Shipping carriers we use to deliver your order, such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, or your local postal service
- Government authorities, courts, or law enforcement if required by law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. International Data Transfers

We are based in United States and we ship to buyers around the world. If you are located outside United States, your order information will be transferred to and processed in United States and in any countries where our service providers operate.

Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as needed to:

- Fulfill your order and handle any follow-up (returns, exchanges, support)
- Comply with our legal obligations, including tax and accounting records (typically 6 to 10 years depending on jurisdiction)
- Resolve disputes and enforce our agreements

After that period, we delete or anonymize your personal information.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request that we correct or update inaccurate information
- Request that we delete your personal information, subject to our legal obligations
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR and applicable national laws, including the right to withdraw consent and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of any sale of your personal information. We do not sell your information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [your@email.com]. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Why every Etsy seller needs a privacy policy

The moment a buyer places an order on Etsy, you receive personal data: their name, shipping address, sometimes a phone number, and any custom order details they typed into the listing. Under GDPR (EU and UK), CCPA (California), and PIPEDA (Canada), you become a data controller for that information, even if Etsy is the platform that collected it.

Etsy's own privacy policy covers what Etsy does as a platform. It does not cover what you do with the data once it lands in your seller dashboard. That gap is what your own privacy policy fills. It explains, in plain language, what you collect, why, how long you keep it, who you share it with (payment processors, shipping carriers, print-on-demand partners), and what rights buyers have.

Etsy itself requires a privacy policy in your shop policies if you collect any data outside of the Etsy platform, for example through a newsletter signup, a personal website, or a custom order form. Even if you do not, having a clean policy in place looks professional and builds buyer trust.

How to use the generator

  1. Fill in your shop name, contact email, and the country you operate from.
  2. Toggle on the things that apply to your shop: international shipping, personalized orders, a newsletter, an external website, or print-on-demand partners.
  3. Review the generated policy on the right. It updates live as you change inputs.
  4. Copy it to your clipboard or download it as a text file.
  5. In Etsy, go to Shop Manager, Settings, Policies, and paste it into the Privacy section. If you have your own website, add it at a dedicated /privacy page linked from your footer.

What the policy covers

The generated policy includes the disclosures most small Etsy shops need: what data you collect, how you use it, who you share it with, how long you keep it, international transfer notices (when you ship abroad), and the rights buyers have under GDPR and CCPA. Sections appear conditionally based on what you actually do, so you do not end up with paragraphs about a newsletter you do not send.

This template is a strong starting point but it is not legal advice. If you handle sensitive data, operate at scale, or are in a regulated industry, have a lawyer review it before publishing.
