I opened a new Etsy shop the other day. I’ve done this before, I know the drill. But this time I moved a little too fast.
If you don’t know, Etsy offers 40 free listings to new sellers who sign up through a referral link. That’s 40 listings you don’t pay the $0.20 listing fee on. Not life-changing money, but hey, eight bucks is eight bucks.
The thing is, you have to click the referral link before you hit that “Get started” button on etsy.com. And guess what I did? I went straight to Etsy, clicked “Get started” out of habit, and only then remembered the referral link.
Too late. Once you’ve started the signup process, the referral doesn’t apply anymore. There’s no way to go back and add it.
Was I frustrated? A little. Is it the end of the world? Obviously not. But it’s exactly the kind of small, avoidable mistake that’s annoying because you knew better.
So if you’re thinking about opening a new Etsy shop, do yourself a favor: click a referral link first, then start the signup. Here’s ours if you need one: Get 40 free listings on Etsy. Click it, then go through the setup.
Your future self will thank you for those eight dollars 🙂
