How Etsy Sellers Can Thrive: Insights from Cyril of Listadum on The Smart Influencer Podcast

Etsy is one of the most powerful marketplaces for digital creators – but success isn’t just about listing products; it’s about understanding how the platform works. On The Smart Influencer Podcast, Listadum founder Cyril Chandelier joined hosts Corinne and Christina to unpack what truly drives growth on Etsy and how data-driven tools can simplify the process for sellers everywhere.

Why Etsy Still Matters

Cyril began by highlighting why Etsy remains such a strong platform for independent creators:

“It’s beautiful when you create a shop on Etsy because you are borrowing their distribution. They have millions of people that come to their website with the intent to buy. They do advertising on TV, on billboards… They are known to be the place to go if you want to buy a gift.” (Cyril, 00:46:17)

Corinne responded with what many creators feel: maybe some people now know wondermom.shop, but many more know Etsy. You’re more likely to buy from Etsy because it’s known, it’s familiar – they trust it.” (Corinne, 00:45:3)

Cyril agreed that Etsy’s built-in credibility is a major advantage, adding:

“What I like to say to people who think Etsy fees are too high is that it’s better to get 90% of a number than 100% of zero.” (Cyril, 00:49:35)

Data-Driven Decisions Made Simple

Listadum was created after Cyril saw how overwhelmed his wife – an Etsy seller herself – became managing listings, SEO, and pricing. His goal: make the data behind Etsy clear and actionable.

“Every week we are going to go and look at these shops and see – did they make sales this week or this month, did they launch new products, etc. It can be really helpful to see which popular shops in your niche are working and what they’re selling.” (Cyril, 00:31:25)

Christina praised that approach, saying:

“You’ve given someone a tool that they don’t have to come in and be an Etsy master. You’ve made it easy to do with this tool.” (Christina, 00:43:01)

Cyril added that clarity, not complexity, is the real goal:

“One thing I’d say that is very important when creating a product is to try to not overwhelm people with data. It’s very easy when you have a lot of data to just show it all, but it’s not about raw numbers. You need to guide people, you need to help them.” (Cyril, 00:43:36)

Smarter Insights with the Chrome Extension

The hosts were fascinated by Listadum’s Chrome extension, which layers competitive insight directly over Etsy listings.

“We are just going to augment your experience on Etsy by showing more information. You’ll be able to see at a glance how many views a listing got, how many favorites, and because we know how old it is, we can tell you how many views it gets on average every day.” (Cyril, 00:33:16)

“As soon as listings start getting multiple views per day, usually it’s a sign that there is a market – that if you were doing something in that niche, you could be put in front of people and maybe make sales.” (Cyril, 00:33:50)

Christina summed it up perfectly:

“It’s like Keywords Everywhere – you go do a Google search and it provides that data. This is doing the same thing when you’re on Etsy.” (Christina, 00:32:54)

SEO Myths and What Really Matters

Cyril shared one of the most common mistakes Etsy sellers make: obsessing over perfect tags instead of understanding buyer demand.

“The common mistake we see people make is to focus way too much on the tags part in SEO. Everyone is trying to find the perfect tags – the high-demand, low-competition ones – but that doesn’t mean using them will create new magical sales. The most important thing is demand.” (Cyril, 00:52:49)

Building Sales Momentum

Cyril explained that Etsy’s search algorithm rewards sales velocity – listings that consistently sell rise to the top.

“Even if you come with a better listing, a better title, and better tags – if your listing has zero sales, you’re not necessarily going to win.” (Cyril, 00:36:11)

“When you launch a new product, Etsy gives it a little boost… It’s your opportunity to get those initial sales. If during this honeymoon period you actually send more people and show that this listing is in demand – create that demand – it’s better.” (Cyril, 00:37:23)

“A mailing list is a great example. If you are on social media announcing new products now and then – bringing people who are already following you and interested – it’s definitely going to help build momentum.” (Cyril, 00:38:07)

“Can you utilize coupons and discount codes for that? Absolutely.” (Cyril, 00:39:11)

Corinne loved the simplicity of that logic:

Corinne was such simple advice, and it’s so easy to see in that dashboard – find what’s working and double down.” (Corinne, 00:24:40)

Product Photography That Converts

As Cyril pointed out, photos aren’t decoration – they’re conversion tools.

“Etsy recommends front, side, three-quarter angles – which is great. But this is not where it ends. You should also show it in people’s hands, show it in context, and answer the other questions a buyer may have.” (Cyril, 00:41:05)

Christina chimed in with the buyer’s perspective:

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on a listing and it’s the same image – one to the left, one to the right, one top down. I want to see more variety, or give me more information.” (Christina, 00:41:36)

Focus on What Buyers Want

Cyril reminded listeners that even the smartest SEO can’t replace real-world demand.

“If this product – nobody wants it – you should just continue and iterate until you find something people want.” (Cyril, 00:54:03)

The hosts wholeheartedly agreed.

“The laws of supply and demand – always econ 101.” (Christina, 00:54:10)

The Listadum Mission

Cyril closed the interview with what drives Listadum’s ongoing development: helping sellers learn and grow without the overwhelm.

“Hopefully we help sellers go through the hump of learning how to sell online thanks to our tools.” (Cyril, 00:44:14)

Christina ended on a high note:

“I have not been this excited about a tool in I don’t know how long.” (Christina, 00:54:35)
