Understanding the Completion Score

Last updated on

In Listadum, each listing is graded between 0 and 100 into something we call the Completion Score.

The Completion Score is the result of dozens of checks against:

  • the title
  • the description
  • the return policy
  • the tags
  • the images
  • the video
  • the category

These checks represent guidelines and best practices communicated by Etsy themselves in an official resource called the Etsy Seller Handbook.

Important note: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

If some your listings are successful in getting consistent views and sales, it is not recommended to change anything to it.

Unless you fully understand why this listing works, we advise you to keep it as is, even if the completion score isn’t great.

There are always things that you can do that have little impact on your Etsy SEO (eg: changing the alt text of your images, or updating the bottom part of description), but you should restrain from changing things like your title or tags unless you are absolutely sure the words you are removing are not what could be bringing you the traffic your are seeing.

How to improve the Completion Score of your listing

Each issue identified by the completion score is accompanied with a hint or advice on how to improve it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My listing is doing well already, should I optimize it?

Not necessarily! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

What is a good Completion Score?

We recommend you optimize your listings to have scores of 90 or above.

Do I absolutely need to reach 100 for my listing to be found in search?

Not necessarily, there are a lot of listings on Etsy that are successful, even though they are not optimized. Although not mandatory, it’s recommended to optimize your listing by following the recommendations and best practices communicated by Etsy in the Etsy Seller Handbook.

What if there is no deeper category for my product?

You’ll unfortunately not be able to get to 100 if you can not select the deepest category for your listing. You can safely ignore in this case.
