Global Data for UK Sellers

Understanding global vs local data

If you are running a shop based in the UK, you might notice that some of our data defaults to a global perspective. This is because our core keyword database aggregates search volume from around the world to give you the broadest possible view of demand. Consequently, you might see American spellings like Personalized appearing alongside or instead of British spellings like Personalised.

While this global approach is excellent for understanding worldwide trends, we know it can be tricky when you are specifically targeting local customers who use different terminology or spelling conventions. Currently, our keyword tools do not split data by country, meaning the search volume you see represents a combined global figure rather than a UK-specific one.

How AI handles UK spelling

Even though the raw data is global, our AI tools are designed to be context-aware. When you use features like Improve with AI for your titles, descriptions, or tags, the system should ideally detect your shop's location settings.

If your Etsy shop is registered as a GB shop, the AI Helper aims to prioritize UK-ready spelling and phrasing in its suggestions. However, since the underlying keyword suggestions are drawn from a global pool, you may still encounter American-centric terms in the initial keyword lists. For the most accurate local nuance, many sellers find that using our data for volume metrics while applying their own local knowledge for phrasing yields the best results.

Filtering competitors by location

When analyzing the competition on a given keyword, you don't have to look at the entire global marketplace. You can narrow down your research to see only the shops that matter most to your specific region. By default, competitor data is global, but we have added specific filters to help you focus on local markets.

You can filter your competitor analysis in two key areas:

  • Top Shops Analysis: Navigate to the filters sidebar and look for the Location dropdown. Here, you can select specific countries to see which shops are performing best in that region.

  • Top Listings Analysis: When viewing top listings for a specific keyword, use the Ships to filter. This allows you to isolate results that are shipping specifically to the United Kingdom, giving you a clearer picture of your direct local competition.

Combining tools for local success

If your primary strategy relies heavily on hyper-local keyword data that differs significantly from global trends (such as specific UK-only search volumes), you might find that dedicated local tools are still necessary for that specific layer of research. However, you can still leverage our platform effectively by:

  • Using our global volume data to identify high-demand topics that are popular everywhere.

  • Applying the location filters to see who is actually winning in the UK market for those topics.

  • Using AI rewriting tools to adapt your content, ensuring the final output uses the correct British spelling and tone for your audience.

We are constantly updating our filters to give you more control over your data sources. While we don't currently have a toggle to switch the entire database to UK-only, these location-specific views in the competitor and listing analyzers are designed to bridge that gap.
